- O'Grady's Au Gratin
Posted by Craig on 4/5/2007, 11:26 am 4.253.70.131|
A favorite from the 80's that Frito Lay marketed... A super thick chip with a delightful full cheesy baked potato flavor... I would love for these to come back. I could never get enough of them... Who else remembers them?????

Did you know that Ruffles Thick Cut Cheddar Baked Potato chips come remarkably close to O'Grady's Au Gratin - not quite as cheesy, but very thick!

I used to love these. I was a kid and would take a steak knife and cut them into the strips. I remember drinking those cheap wildwood sodas, which are probably still available in the Midwest. I had an awful diet of junk food. But, I would love to have the O'grady's again.

These new "Thick Ruffles" are nothing like the Original O'Grady's.The chips aren't as thick, and the flavor is far to weak

It's a little difficult to compare a product from 20 years ago... Regardless of the intensity of the cheese flavour, and the exact thickness of the chip, I have to say that this product is still far superior to the average ruffle chip, and I'll take what I can get! BTW, FritoLay is the same chip company that sold the original O'Grady chips. I think everyone here should contact FritoLay, thank them for the Au Gratin chips, and request that they make them even thicker, and cheesier.

I found an old commercial for them on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWBMI_8nMwA it's the second commercial in this series of commercials from the 80's. And as said in some previous posts we need to let Frito Lay know that we want them to bring them back! The address I sent my letter to was: Frito-Lay P.O. Box 660634 Dallas, TX 75266-0634

Are you Freakin'kidding me---best chips ever made, hands down. Our whole family is jonesing for them. We believe that this product killed every other one, so not being able to sell all the other chips, they took O'Grady's off the market. Of course we are a big conspiracy theory family.

Oh, I remember them well. I ate them almost everyday for lunch as long as they were made. There has to be a way to get Frito Lay to bring them back.We could start flooding Frito Lay with requests to make them again.

Yeah, I was just telling my daughter that I marked her with those chips. When I was carrying her that was the only thing I ate. She is a devout potato chip connoisseur as a result. We really need to get them to bring them back. (As they were that is).

I wrote them a letter a few weeks back asking them to bring the chips back. They sent me a legal response, something about they prefer to come up with their own ideas to avoid litigation, blah,blah,blah... But they did give me a coupon for a free bag of chips even though I would have preferred them to have said they were going to bring O'Grady's back.

They took them off the market in South Africa about a year ago. We thought it was only in South Africa that it was taken off the market. We grew up on them, where are they? What did they do with O gradys Au Gratin.
