Syquest SQ5200C SCSI Drive

I'm trying to hook up my old Syquest Drive to a Mac G-3 with system 9. My SSCI cable is new. When I try to start my computor, it will only get to the "Login Window starting" position and then stop. Any ideas? Thanks,
