This is a rare opportunity to own a very nice condition 1913 Gurley mountain size solar transit with the early Burt type solar attachment. This style of solar attachment was used by the General Land Office beginning about 1870 when they the Solar Compass was being replace with the Burt Solar Transit. This transit is in all original condition, never been anyone trying to restore it as collectors prefer. This type of transit was mostly used by the General Land Office, and was phased out about 1930 before they turned into the Bureau of Land Management in 1947. This transit was no doubt used for surveying public lands, so probably is an ex-government transit and in the old days prior to about 1960 the listed the serial number of the transit they used. Since most of the government field notes are now on line, diligent researh could result in finding where this transit was used. It has a 8 1/2 inch long scope, a 4 inch compass needle and a 5 1/2 inch plate. Everything works just fine, motions are smooth and the optics and crosshairs are fine. It comes with the accessories you see pictured including a original box with some instructions and other little accessories, and a tripod. I do not believe this stiff leg tripod is original to the transit, however it fits securely to the tripod and makes for a great display. Price is $3900.00, priority postage is $50.00 within the US, more if you would like insurance or are outside the USA.
