Posted by Steve C Our biggest stroke of good luck was that Jeanee came ashore at low tide - even so Atlantic Ave was covered with beach sand. Wind and serge damage was much worse just south of Patrick - we dodged a bullet, barely.

Jeanne was more severe than Frances, but for some reason, it seems life in Cocoa Beach is returning to normal a little quicker this time - I think the support services were still in place form the last one. Cocoa Beach is a bit battered. All of the ocean front properties suffered some damage. The Doubletree may not be repairable, the Glass Bank will need a new name because it is no longer very "glassy". To the amazement of all, the pier is still standing. I believe that about 200 homes/condos have been condemned in the city. The moral here is that the old style Florida houses and the newest ones, built after Andrew, held up well.
