Posted by charley Jimmy (66) and Carol Birch in Winter Springs opened their home to me and his parents, Alberta and Ken Birch, his sister Paula Birch Hart and her husband John, all Merritt Island residents and Carol's mom Bettye from Lake Mary. We lost power here on Friday afternoon and got it back this evening. While Karl (79) and Linda (Selby)(67) Birch stayed at home in Chuluota. Finally, Rollin Birch (81) high tailed it all the way to North Carolina. I hope he can find some generators for the next time. I stayed in touch throughout the storm via cell phone with Rinky Schmidlkofer (67) and her mom, June (retired CB Freedom 7 teacher). They rode out the storm at home on Bayshore Drive in West Point. If anyone can get down there with some ice, AA batteries or a cold Corona they would really appreciate it. I'm going to try to get over there first thing tomorrow morning (Tuesday -the 7th.) Gail Ransom Cunningham (67)in Peru, Indiana and I talked numerous times as Gail and Mike were also planning to attend Celebration too! They held off coming down. Her mom, Mrs. Ransom (CB staff 64-66), evacuated to Oviedo and rode out the storm at her son Kim's (73) home. Gail was kind enough to call me several times with updates as her Mom managed to get over to Cocoa Beach today to check out her home - Mrs. Ransom had only minor damage. Dave Saltus Bissonette (67)in Lago Vista, Texas touched base with me as he was really concerned about his 'hometown' as did Phil King (67) over in Tampa, FL. Suzanne (Dani) Anderson Vaughn (67) called from the Baltimore/Washington airport (BWI), she was outbound to spend Labor Day weekend in Paduka, Kentucky with Carol Harmon (CB faculty 65-68). Suzanne put me in contact with Jessica Freeman who put me in contact with her mom Judy Bireline Baczynski (67). Judy and Bill Baczynski evacuated from their home in Satellite Beach to Columbia, South Carolina. I reached Michele Brenner Salick (67), her son Dave Morgan (2003), her sister, Pat Brenner Valluzi (68), and her daughters Arial (2004) and Autum Valluzi to the west side of Jacksonville. They all returned to Brevard County today. While Michele and Pat's dad, Bud Brenner stayed at home on Bermuda Road in Cocoa Beach. Diane Childs (73) emailed me to let me know she left Gainesville, FL to hunker down in 'Childs' Alabama... west of Dothan. It's really a great feeling to know that so many people care about the Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral area and the people that either still live there or are former residents that still call the Beach 'home.' take care!

Hi Linda,
Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral has lots of concerned friends. I flew to Orlando on Wednesday, September 1st to attend the Celebration 2004... and who says history doesn't repeat itself!
Does anyone remember the name of the storm that flooded CBHS on September 5, 1964? I managed to visit Cocoa Beach before the mandatory evacuation went into effect on the 2nd at 2 PM.
