I just finished reading the book "A Land Remembered" by Patrick Smith.
If you drive in the middle of Florida(off I-4) you can still see the vast areas of the old Florida that the book tells about. I think many of you would enjoy this book, which tells the story of one of the old families that worked cattle and oranges from the Civil War period to more recent times.
For me the book really was educational, and brought back some old memories as well.
It's amazing(among other things) to realize the changes that this state has gone through in only a 125 years. I once ran into an old timer that had been a drover in his youth and had driven huge herds of cattle through what is now the middle of Tampa down the Dale Mabry trail to the Hyde Park stockyards.
Patrick Smith was in the administration at BCC when many of us were going there. The book is available new/used at amazon.com
