The light of the world became a little dimmer last evening.
I was in his choir during my sophmore year '72/'73 when there were close to 200 students in his class out of about 900 total in the school. That's unheard of
I moved to a California school the following year where out of 2700 total student, less than 60 were in the choir. As soon as the director began to teach the "smiling voice" Mr Borens tried to prevent, there were even less.
He had both a command of his craft and an even more amazing gift with people. I was very blessed to have witnessed it first hand and I have benefited so much from what I learned from him.
While I am sure he knew that he was influencing many lives for the better, I doubt that it would even be possible for him to grasp how much.
It is now one of my big regrets in life that I did not get to meet him again face-to-face and thank him and let him know how much he continued to influence me long after that wonderful year in his choir.
