I cannot find my Class of '73 yearbook so I am uncertain of the correct spelling of his name but I had heard a while back that Milton Borens, the choir director during the early '70s, was in ill health.
It has been a strong desire of mine to thank him for what he taught me. Before I had entered his class as a bass going through puberty, I had been trying to teach myself how to read music with much frustration.
One day in one class, he opened up the world to me and everything finally made sense. That made him one of my biggest heroes.
I now make a living teaching and publishing music for guitar and bass and that day will always be with me. If he is still alive, I would love for him to be made aware of his victory.
While he probably knows that he made a difference to so many people, we should never miss an opportunity to express it to him and any other teacher that opened doors for all of us.
(I just hope he can forgive me if I misspelled his name).
