I have been working on the James B. Miller Papers manuscript collection for CCHS. It contains one letter which was written while he was at Saint Vrains Fort. It is dated 5/22/1861. He gives a brief description of the area and people. He has several letters from the Colorado Territory and mentions working in a quartz mill. The finding aid will be posted this summer to www.cchs-pa.org under collections/library/manuscripts/moremanuscripts. So be sure to take a look.
