Posted by EastUpper on June 28, 2004, 10:24 am Jacques Santini and Frank Arnesen both start this Thursday , and Martin Jol a week today (he's contracted until 4th for some reason). According to a report in the Dutch daily, De Telegraaf, Arnesen is returning to Holland today, following the defeat of Denmark last night. De Telegraaf also reports that Jol has snaffled one physio and one coach from RKC Waalwijk, to bring with him, (but they are not named). The Dutch website nu/nl sport reports that PSV have already hired Guus Hiddink as Technical director to replace Frank, but goes on to bemoan the fact that the cream of Holland's coaches are leaving the Eredivisie for the Premiership and the Bundesliga, and says it's all about money. They wonder why the Dutch Federation are not generating as much income for their clubs as the rest of Europe seem to be doing. Another Dutch daily, de Volksrant, which is a Daily Mail type paper, suggests that Arnesen is already preparing to wield the axe at WHL, just as he did when he joined PSV, by clearing out some of the dead wood. Apparently, Arnesen got rid of no fewer than 12 players when he arrived at PSV. de Volksrant goes on to say that agents have already quietly been asked to find new clubs for the following players: Gary Doherty, Mauricio Taricco, Dean Richards, Michael Brown and Kasey Keller. According to one report I read, Sheffield United are interested in re-acquiring the services of Michael Brown, but not for £500,000. Milenko Acimovic, who very quietly slipped away to Lille on loan in January, looks likely to stay at the French club, and even if not, he is about to be told to find himself a new club in any event. Goran Bunjevcevic who rejected a loan/trial with French outfit Bastia back in January has now re-appraised his situation, and Bastia are still interested, so he may well go there for a trial. The problem is Bastia will only offer him around half what he's earning at The Lane, but they still want him. Obviously they haven't seen him playing

I'm told the players, except those involved in Euro 2004, (King, Robinson, Postiga) report back on July 8th. The Euro 2004 guys join the squad on 12th to fly to Denmark. Mbulelo Mabizela and Fredi Kanouté have both been involved in World Cup qualifying in Africa, but will still be back on July 8th. ![]()
