We are all composed of mainly empty space, just like the universe. The material world which we so value as "solid" is actually maya, or illusion. We are all living a dream, so to speak, and our Higher Self is waiting for us to awaken and experience the true reality. Your hand disappearing was probably an optical illusion, or a message sent from your Higher Self necessary for you to realize that we are living a dream which was created by our past life karma.
