I've been told that within the Michael teachings I am a "server." Although I've never been a student of those teachings, it is abundantly clear to me that when I seriously committed myself to a path of service my life came alive with compassion, gratitude and humility. Being of service has truly permitted my heart to open. It began eleven years ago simlpy by opening my heart to my former wife who has chronic illness and who was in great need of help. It continued with training at Zen Hospice and then with the Living/Dying Project where I have now served as a volunteer for eight years. I've been invited to share the final months of life by men and women who were open to exploring the spiritual dimensions of life's end. Today I met with my current client, a 43 year of husband and father of a four year old daughter who is in the late stages of ALS. All I have to offer this man is my open heart. What I receive in return is priceless. Most folks who learn of my volunteer work believe it must be depressing but in reality it is the most enlivening experience imaginable. There is ultimately no room left for anything but the truth. I'm held by many of the teachers mentioned on this website and the deep truths they have shared come alive in this work. I feel blessed.
