I’m a bit new to this spirituality stuff. Recently I’ve come to think that most everything may be “spirit”. At 58, it feels like “spirit” is surrounding me. Why now? My background was fundamentalist Christian, then atheist, then agnostic, now --- I don’t know. Blue collar, born on a farm in South Dakota, long time in Spokane, Seattle, now Port Townsend, WA. I’m a skeptic, but not a cynic. I was a cynic. This slow, spiritual awakening began after GW was elected a second time. I stopped listening to the radio, couldn’t stand his voice. (I was a news junkie, walkman on all the time.) My mind quieted. Currently my meditation is sketchy. Trying. Could do better. I’d like a meditation friend, someone to check in with. You know – “How’s your progress?” That sort of thing. I’m not religious, including Buddhist. Buddhist concepts are interesting and varied, but having experienced some Buddhist rituals, my religious skepticism keeps me from participating just now. Right now I’m reading, Eat, Pray, Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert. Before that, it was, Insight Meditation, by Joseph Goldstein. I’ve read some Gary Zukav, Steven Levine, Jack Kornfield, Eckart Tolle, John Edward (the psychic), and other psychic books. I wish I had a friend who is a spiritual explorer, whose feet are firmly planted on this earth, not in the cosmos or recommending another book, retreat, or ashram. An email buddy, or someone local. I think we all may have spirit “guides”. Not sure, but maybe. If so, I’m sending this off, asking my guides to have this connect with someone. Love to all – Jerry
