I think you've missed the point because you've had an emotional reaction to thinking he slammed Ramana Maharishi (who I happen to respect a lot, BTW). Jed, in his third book, systematically seeks to negate as many common outside sources of information as he can by calling them trash, which is a harsh but effective way from my POV. The truth is, no outside source can describe truth, because the truth is beyond all concepts, all thinking. It is purely a direct experience and can only be that. So simple, the simplest. Anything outside the Self is as good as trash for spiritual purposes, unless it helps point the way to the truth inside yourself. But then it's just that, a pointer, without any substance other than that.
I was amused to find that Jed would say Enlightenment is only one thing, like Truth - a strong message, and then the next chapter he would say something that looked like he was negating that, like Enlightenment is only Letting Go, etc. and then do the same thing in the next chapter.
Well played Jed....Well played.
