Posted by Warwick If you read Shankara's Crest Jewell of Enlightenment, and many other traditional texts which endorse the re-incarnation idea, they all describe re-incarnation as something to be avoided; in fact, the whole point of enlightenment is to escape from the cycle of life/death/re-incarnation. If Ramana Maharshi has been re-incarnated then it means that he was not properly enlightened. This site is concerned with using Ramana's teachings to change the world; but Ramana always told prople who came to him that they should forget about the world and change themselves, that changing themselves was the most effective thing that they could do to change the world. The little that I've read about this approach carries a strong smell of bullshit. Warwick

I do not know, personally, whether re-incarnation exists. But the people who most strongly advocate it today, appear, to me, to be using it as a method to avoid confronting their fear of death.
It seems to be do-goodism with a spiritual veneer.
