Hi Bill,
Some great memories there. Keep em' coming.
Yes, we are not ALL about radio 100% I think anyone on here , EVEN ME! I have a whole other life outside radio in the work I have done since a child with my father on Cars - from rebuilding engines to fitting a new Chassis to all the other stuff.
It's very easy to brand someone a "bloody anorak" without knowing the person or why they are the way they are.
Actually, my Grandfather worked as a Diesel mechanic / Oil Platform Chief Superintendent and was the one person who would be sure to maintain the 12 cylinder CATERPILLAR diesel engines on Oil rigs worldwide.. "if you have a problem with your diesel rig and no-one else can help then maybe you need to call TJ Caldwell?" - that's what all the guys on the oilfields used to say!
Tom Caldwell was known as "The Diesel Doctor"and studied electrics and electronics so that is another reason the entire area of radio engineering fascinates me as the pirate ships relied upon Diesel generators to keep them alive.
I love getting an engine going that has been lying there for ten years ... upgrading a computer to give it more memory and power.. modifying something so it WILL work for what I want it to...
So you see that is why brilliant people will always be brilliant people.
So fair play to you and Chris,Bill.
Enda
