I've just copied this of the www.radiowaves.fm website. Doesn't it just prove how crap licenced radio has gone? Certainly worth discussion....
"When my first son was being born, the maternity ward had Cool FM playing in the background. Since my wife's labour lasted quite a long period of time, I eventually realised that the same songs on Cool (and exactly the same order as well !) would come around about every couple of hours or so. It just shows how much radio really is controled by business organisations who have little or no interest in the music or character but a lot in making profits from advertising. I suppose they have to in order to survive, however, other countries seem to do it so much better. In the US radio is fantastic (I was in Florida a number of years ago) with far more choice in music and stations. Even Europe is better (especially Italy and France).
I've been told the presenters here have little or no choice in what music is played and merely push a few buttons on a computer and waffle in between songs (I've been involved in hospital radio and an RSL so I know how easy it is !). With cool edit you can even take out the uhs, ehs, and "so it is", "you know " etc. which is probably why Cool DJ's sound very robotic at times.
As I said, radio lost it's soul a long time ago. With Ofcom and Comreg now clamping down so heavily on any pirate activity there's no chance of that changing anytime soon, unfortunately."
