Terrible shocking news. I really thought and (hoped) Chris would make it.
Scott mentioned the old days in the Victor where I first met you - remember the tea breaks with rock buns down the shopping mall? I'd never had Dublin rock buns before that and think I got hooked! You, Me and Bryan were the regulars there, with various others occasionally dropping in.
Anyway, shortly after that I helped some of the ex SSR guys start another station, Island Radio, FM only from a castle in Dalkey. I think it was the only other fM on at the time, apart from the newly started Nova 88.
Anyway, the transmitter was an enormous old valve thing that I'd got from a scrap yard in the UK and the antenna was home made from welded copper tubes! Needless to say, the transmitter quickly exploded and guess who helped us out?
Chris turned up along with Paul the engineer and gave us the parts we needed to get it fixed and also one of his "Texas Hoop" aerial systems!
I don't think anyone else in Dublin would have helped another station to that extent in those days.
I'm going to miss the unexpected afternoon phone calls, when Chris would call, out of the blue, to talk about setting up digital radio on short wave from Spain, and any amount of other amazing ideas.
We've lost a great innovator and friend.
Stay strong and take care Sybil, try to carry on the way Chris would want you to.
Chris, s'long mate - see you in the next one!
Keith.
