Okey dokey the time has come...I'm looking for a new member of Lou Brown and The Makeshift Family Band. I'm not entirely sure what instrument it is I'm looking for, perhaps keyboard or lead guitar but anything that will add to the band and is transportable would work.I don't need a drummer or bass player and if you also do backing vocals that would be a serious desirable coz I'm a great lover of lots of harmonies and lots of us already do harmonies!
Here's the work that's coming up over the next 12 months (subject to change):
Dec 2009 - residential studio work for one/two weeks with good producer working on my second album. This work will potential be paid but this depends on label and agreement so you must be willing to consider not charging for the work. Accommodation, food and transport costs will be covered.
April/May 2010 - roughly 20 date UK headline tour as part of a trio (some with the full band ) a lot of this will mean block of dates on the road towards the end there is a 10 day (ish) block of staying on the road for the Scottish leg. Check out the website for more details (you will be a continuous part of this tour so ignore the clause that says solo unless otherwise stated!). Please note these are NOT stadium size venues they will be 50/100 seater capacities and generally in folk genre venues (I play folky stuff see
) These gigs will be paid small fees for each gig and accommodation, food and transport etc provided. Accommodation will be B&B's and or with promoter so must be willing to "bunk down" on an airmatress if we don't have rooms each. The tour manager will do his best to make sure we are all comfy!
Summer 2010 - festival season, last year included Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, Greenbelt and we are hoping for the same in 2010 with the band. These may not always be with hotel accommodation so must be willing to camp if we need to. Obviously you will get free tickets to all the festivals we are booked for!
Autumn 2010 - potentially there will be a 6 week Canada and US tour. We are waiting for further info on this or it could be Europe. Gig payments will vary on what we make and what we need to keep going! Accommodation could be in homestays so you need to be polite and lovely and friendly.
In between all this I'm sure lots of other things will come up like radio sessions, photo shoots and the like but at the moment that is the plan. It's been a brilliant year so far with loads of radio 2 airplays, fab producer, licensing deal in place etc etc.
So...what do I need from you? Right this is gonna sound strict but I'm saying for everyones good and so that the band can be a success...big breath...
1. You need to have a professional attitude. This means if there is a rehersal or gig booked, you are there. No excuses. You need to be polite and well mannered to promoters no big ego's need apply.
2. You need to be committed to the band/trio. If you want to join me so that you can big up your own profile and step on my head to get you and your own songs known, please don't apply. I am working really hard on making sure that everyone in the band/trio gets a good paid career and if you do you own stuff or are in another band as well that's great, totally cool with that but it needs to be seperate from this act. If you do another act please do not book gigs or rehersals on the dates we need you for the makeshift family band or at least give me way loads of warning!!
3. You must not be an alcoholic, active drug addict or sleaze. Nothing against people that are any of these things but it just isn't workable on the road.
4. You need be nice. Simple as that. I'm a family friendly kinda gal and need the act to reflect this.
5. Would be bonus for us all if you liked my music.
I don't give a monkeys bum if you are male/female, young/old, fat/thin, bald or with hair you just gotta be good at the instrument/s that you play.
Preferably within a 2 hour radius of Poole, Dorset where I'm based but even if your not this could be workable as gigs are nationwide.
If you think this could be the act you wanna join please e-mail or call me on 07779 106519 / lou@loubrownmusic.com or contact my manager Dom on 07515 970316 / dom@loubrownmusic.com to arrange a jam.
Please note the producer will want to hear what you've already done so if you've got recordings /myspace of stuff you've already played on that would cool.
Current full band line up is:
Vocals and Rhythm Guitar : Lou Brown
Backing Vocals: Aimee Newsome Stone
Bass: Lydia Grace
Drums: Simon Whitbread
Thanks for reading.
Love
Lou
