Glad u enjoyed it, DHS
Straightforward band triple-bills (without acoustic or electronic content) are rare for Solid Air these days. A successful Rubber Soul relies on each of the 3 bands being able to attract 25/30 peeps, primarily by not over-gigging; it's not for bands that feel a burning need to gig locally every week or do a bunch of home-gigs together (the dread backyard mini-tour) - that's what eventually killed-off RS in the first place, forcing us to pull the plug after 300 weekly Rubbers. One band actually admitted that they hadn't invited anyone & were using it as a rehearsal, while many acts clearly believed that a table of 4 girlfriends, bless, constituted generating their share of the night's audience
Rubber Soul also required bands & friends to fully grasp the non-headline/support concept of equal status & communial goodwill; not two acts expecting the final band to do the bulk of pre-gig networking & not the earlier act's friends legging it after their mates have played. One of the key aspects of last Monday's success was the strong early turn-out - we could easily have started @ 8.30pm to guarantee not stitching-up the last band - something I've been notoriously guilty of on 5/6-act Solids over the years. As it was, JUNIA played 8.55pm-9.20pm, SKY BLUE 9.35pm-10pm & THE OTHER HALF 10.15pm-10.45pm
This Monday's Solid Air is our experimental monthly FORBi>>EN PL^NE¬ (a very different beastie from Rubber Soul) with electronik noisecore via The Mylar Blackout's CLIFF BASTARD, Soton glitch kidz, DOGEESESEEGOD, Sonic Arkestra bassist KING RAZOR DJing & ZTi film vizualz. SOLA INFRARED still tbc... *sigh*
