Hi Rochelle,
One of the worst combinations I can think of is that of a beginner or 'green' rider on a 'green' or 'green broke' horse or pony. A green broke horse needs a professional or very experienced amateur on its back, one who is equipped to teach it what it needs to know in order to become a safe and steady mount, whether for the show ring or for pleasure riding.
An inexperienced rider needs riding lessons on a well trained and safe horse, one which will assist the teacher in instilling riding knowledge as well as confidence in the rider. "Green on Green is never a good or safe combination."
You must first do some research in your area and find a riding instructor with a good reputation. Work with that professional, taking lessons and in time getting him or her to assist you in finding the proper mount for your ability. Good luck.
