Hi Lexi,
Last year was my first year of showing. So I know how you feel. Showing sometimes can feel overwhelming, and in rare cases impossible. There is a lot to do in order to prepare for a show. Such as bathing, grooming, clipping, braiding/banding ect.
The night before your show, make sure your horse is stalled and has a sheet on, to prevent him from getting dirty. Also, make sure you have packed everything you will need for the show the next day. Make a list of items you'll need, and check them off as you get them into your truck/trailer. After that, double and triple check you have everything. There's nothing worse than arriving at the show and realizing you forgot something. Be prepared for the worst.
After your horse is settled and your trailer is hooked up and ready to go, take a deep breath. Go to bed early, but don't forget to set your alarm clock!!
The morning of, do any last minute touch ups on your horse and hit the road. Be sure to arrive early. It's importent to get yourself checked in and your horse settled. Then hit the schooling ring. Before a class, take a deep breath and tell yourself you can do this. RELAX AND HAVE FUN!! Showing should not be meant to stress you or your equine companion out. If you don't do as well as you hoped, forget it. Prepare for your next class. There will be plenty of time to go over what you may have done wrong later or tomorrow. Don't let a bad class ruin your day.
And again, RELAX AND HAVE FUN!
Good luck.
