Dear Kari,
Rearing is the worst vice a horse can have. How yours learned to do it is a mystery to me and probably to you, since she more than likely learned to rear before you ever owned her. My advice is to seek a knowledgable trainer to work with your mount. If you are anything short of a professional, you are in grave danger trying to fix this habbit yourself. It will take a rider who stays glued to the saddle while driving the horse forward. Whatever you do, don't hang on the reins when your horse begins to rear. Drive her forward while leaning on the horses neck holding onto the mane. Again, I firmly believe this is a situation that should be handled by a good trainer.
