Hi Missy,
That's awesome news about your step daughter! I have a couple of suggestions and hopefully some of the other board readers will chip in, too.
Maybe try getting a sponsor, or sponsors? They could potentially be local tack (horse supply) stores, feed stores.. or on a larger scale, manufacturers. Though it will be harder to get a big company, you may be able to find one who would be thrilled to sponsor your step daughter. You can start by asking around at a local tack store and see where it goes from there.
Most will want you to submit a letter stating what you're looking for as part of the sponsorship (whether it be money, product or services) and it wouldn't hurt to submit some of your step daughters show placings and the number of entires in the classes she entered. (I've found that companies are more willing to sponsor a rider who routinely places high in larger classes than a rider who places low in larger ones, though it's not a hard and fast rule).
You could also try fund raising. Start a sort of "Help (step daughters name) achieve her dream" (or whatever phrase you'd like to use) and see who might be willing to donate money. It's awesome that she's doing so well and I'll bet you find quite a few people willing to chip in to help her out... BUT in doing so this way, you must be sure that all money donated is used solely for the purpose of this show (trailering, boarding and showing the horses as you mentioned). Doing otherwise would betray the trust and kindness of others.
And then there's the more common route: work, scrimp and save all you (or she) can. Things like mucking out stalls or doing other barn chores (as long as they're suitable for a 13 year old) don't pay extremely well but it's a start. For her birthday, if it's coming up before the show, she could ask for money instead of presents. Things like that...
Like I said, hopefully some of the other board readers will have some ideas.
Again, congrats!
Katie
