Thanks so much for the suggestion... we bought her the best sheepskin halter cover that they had in the store, and only put her halter on when she is outside.
I figured out why her halter was on so tight though in the first place: she is a little escape artist. Constantly wiggles out of her halter... no excuse for causing her any pain though. Since her skin has healed, she hasn't been giving me any trouble.
Although she will have scars for the rest of her life, (Another reminder of the cruel things people do to animals) she's still my gorgeous little mare.. and I wouldn't trade her for the world.
