Posted by Zoe on 5/28/2007, 3:04 pm I'm 14 years old and have been riding for 13 years. My mom is a certified riding instructor. About 2 years ago, my AMAZING equitation instructor quit, giving us 1 week to leave the barn and find a new place to board. She had trained me for 8 years, and taught me mostly everything I knew. I always won at shows, simply because my equitation was terrific, all thanks to her. So, I went one year without any riding instructor except for my mom. I still rode 3 or 4 times a week, but didn't have formal lessons. I also took a year off of showing. When I went back to shows, I found that I wasn't very good anymore. I came in fourth, or fifth, and sometimes didn't place. This was totally unfamiliar to me. We got a new instructor, but I don't like her very much. She teaches more about how to "be one with your horse" than she does how to look good in a show ring. I want an equitation instructor again, but they all charge too much for lessons. My mom tries to teach me, and she knows more about equitation than my current instructor, but we always end up arguing! What do you think; should I stay with my "horsemanship" teacher, or let my mom teach me?

I don't think anyone really posts on here anymore, but just in case, I wanted to ask a question.
