My name is Jordana, I'm 15 and I've been riding for about 7 years.I've always had a soft spot for big horses and for about the first 6 years I years rode larger horses, never ponies. The horse 17.5 Pandora that I worked very hard with to show jumper had to retire due to a serious injury. I was very dissapointed, not only because I had worked so hard with her but it was such a waste for an amazing horse like that to have to retire. She was the sweetest, most honest horse I've ever had the honour to ride.
While dealing with her injury (a bowed tendon) before we knew she had to retire I was riding my friends show pony Breezie while she had a broken arm. My insructor would always tell me how amazing I looked on ponies and how our barn had the perfect pony for me to show. So while waiting to hear news on Pandora I rode this gorgeous gray pony Asia. When we found out Pandora couldn't be ridden anymore I actually cried and couldn't sleep for a long time. My instructor helped me through it and I started riding Asia for all of my lessons.
Eventually I showed Asia hunter for about a year and we did very well, but now I feel I need to move on to a different horse. The problem is that there are only two horses left that I've never ridden. Both would be a good challenge for me now that I've decided that I've gone as far as I can with Asia and would like to not show for awhile.
These two horses (Joey + Stella) are more for having a challenge, growing and stregnthening my weakness's as a rider than for showing, which is exactly what I'm looking for. I've mentioned several times to my barn that I'd like to ride Joey or Stella and they say I'll get put on them and I never do. I told my instructor how I felt and she talked to the person who decides who gets put on what horse, and still nothing.
I know the squeaky wheel gets the grease and every lesson I say something about how I'm not happy on Asia and I would like to ride other horses, but no changes have been made.
Now I'm not sure what to do because I don't want to leave my instructor or my barn but if they aren't going to make and effort to keep me challenged when I'm paying for a service, I don't feel that I should stay.
Does anyone had any advice on what I should do to get put on a different horse or is 7 years enough time at one barn? I value any and all advice, thank you for reading my post.
