Posted by Katie A horse that is "on the bit" is seen to be relaxed and accepting the bit, not resisting against it (resisting can appear in the form of pulling at the riders hands, tossing their head around, etc). Putting a horse on the bit is something that a rider trains the horse to do by using educated hands. Having not seen you or your horse before, the best person to help you further in getting your horse on the bit - or determining if it is already on the bit - is your instructor.
