Posted by Katie In the simplest form, leg yielding is when the horse yields (or moves from) your leg. You signal the horse with your leg, lightly at first, to ask for them to step over. If the horse ignores your cue, you gradually increase it until the horse listens. For example, if you want your horse to move to the left, you ask for the step over with your right leg. If you want the horse to move to the right, you ask for the step over with your left leg. This move is good for many different things - moving your horse over a step or so to line up straight for a jump, pushing them more into the corner of an arena or ring instead of cutting corners, trail classes, etc...
