I am 15 years old an have been riding for about 2 years. I started out with western and rode for about a year but didn't show. I really wanted to learn to jump so I switched to english about a year ago. I can walk trot and canter now. I can trot over poles but not canter over them. I have never cantered in the two-point position. there is an eight year old in my lesson that keeps asking when she can jump and my instructor keeps telling her when she can canter without stirrups. How long does it usually take a rider to learn to jump? I don't own my own horse so my riding time is limited to lessons but is their anything I can do to become a more advanced rider even when I'm not riding?
