If your mount is a reliable guy, perhaps your trainer would help you school over a set of gymnastics bridging the reins in your right hand once you have established a straigh line approaching the first element of the grid. Try grabbing the mane with your left hand over the gymnastic a few times, then put your left arm out to the side, then behind your back, on top of your head. Practice holding these various positions throughout the entire grid. Teach yourself to use your hands only to direct your horse, keeping them absolutely still otherwise. This is an excellent excersise to correct a 'duck' as well.
