Posted by Katie The hardest thing to learn is to "do nothing" right before a jump. To fidget, whether it be clenching a hand or nudging the horse with your legs, can distract him and in turn, affect the jump. Sit down right before the jump and r-e-l-a-x. Take a deep breath if you have to and make a point of doing nothing. While your problem sounds like it only crops up in the show ring, I'm sure it must creep up, at least from time to time, in the schooling ring, too. Have your coach - or another knowledgable horseperson - watch your lessons and look specifically for that problem. He or she should then be able to offer solutions based on what he or she sees.
