Hi my name is Anne and I've been riding for about 6 years. I like to do lots of shows to gain experience and often try different horses and ponies. I started working with this little chestnut pony named Oscar, and my coach told to to see how he was for me in a schooling show at my barn. I've been working very hard with him, and I'm very confident riding him. He's an awesome jumper, has a nice collected gait and I can get him to legnthen his gaits so his little hooves flick out. My coach said I should do very well at a show, and we worked on a good position and everything so I would do well.
So I had to the show this morning. I did a whole division, walk trot, walk trot canter, walk trot canter one jump, and a six jump course, being judged individually on each class. Many of the people I was competing against are younger and less experienced. I felt I did very well, the whole thing went smoothly and Oscar was amazing. But I only got a fourth, fifth, and two sixth place ribbons, and the girls who beat me have very weak posture, and are on the old grumpy school horses. One of the girls placed first, second, and third twice after her horse took off, and refused a jump. She sat way to far forward, her back wasn't at all straight, and she could barley control her horse, yet she got reserved champion. Even my coach was stumped at the judging and said I looked very strong, in control, and well, good. Also, I was the only person who circled before and after my course and tipped my helmet to the judge.
Does anyone have an explination as to why I did do poorly, although I was one of the strongest riders in my division? Could it be I signed up for a division I was too advanced for, or what? I'm really confused. A case of bad judging? I don't know. If anyone has any idea on why this happened, do tell.
Thanks for reading my post,
Anne
