Two strides in a four stride line will not get you high grades with the judge. Most judges want to see a hunter or hunt seat equitation horse traveling at a medium pace, neither very slow nor at breakneck speed. The horse and rider should not give the appearance of being out of control.
The horse you are showing sounds like he could be taught to collect his stride a bit, relaxing, accepting the bit and fitting in the striding. If he can comfortably do three strides in a line meant for four, meeting the jumps with style and control, I wouldn't penalize him for having a big stride, but I would penalize a horse or rider leaving out two whole strides. That gives me the feeling the horse and rider are not in control.
