Posted by Jay Anyway, my PB hinges broke last July/August, and I never got around to getting them fixed (I used it as a PropBook until about November, when the busted hinges cut the video cable... ouch). I called Apple in about November (actually, they called me after I submitted a report online to them), and I was told in no uncertain terms that they would not fix my computer outside of warranty for free. I explained that this Wallstreet was a replacement for my first machine, which died after 3 weeks with a cut display cable. I also questioned the fact that many people were having this problem, but the guy I talked to stuck to his position that the problem wasn't enough to justify free repairs. I tried back in January, after deciding that I'd just have to pony up the $310. Talked to a guy So, it seems to me, Apple doesn't care that you know about the problems others are having so much... relaying my *personal* history of repair issues with my machine did the trick though.

This was back in late Jan/early February...
at Apple Customer Relations and explained my history with the machine to him (especially the hinges killing the first machine's display cable, and how I even agreed to send it in for an engineering review so they could diagnose the problem in the design). I also told them about the busted sound card I had to have replaced, and the hard drive that I ended up having to replace myself. He put me on hold for a few minutes, then came back and said that he could authorize the repair (I was stunned). A free repair of the hinges, PLUS they replaced the sound card (I'd noticed the AC jack getting a little loose... if I was going to have to pay to get the hinges fixed, I wanted that replaced too), and also reserialized the machine (the stupid sticker had worn off).
