Late Bloomer Smokers

Hi Jessica,
Thanks for taking the time to explain the whole process to me. It is a lot to take in, but you explained it really well, and I do have a much better understanding now. I guess that is one of the nice things about being able to talk to a smoker about these things. There is a part of me that finds myself a bit surprised at where I am, but I am beginning to enjoy this, and all things considered it is I guess a bit of a relief to know that it is, as you said, a smooth process ahead. Knowing that does make things a lot easier. I have some ultra lights left, but I am going to switch to the lights when I drop by the store next time. Thanks again for your notes, and I will in the future let you know how things are going.

: No problem at all. A
: lot of people have many
: questions going through
: their head when they
: first start. I did too,
: but I never really had
: anybody to answer them.
:
: Basically, all you're
: really noticing is your
: body is getting
: adjusted. You're
: becoming used to it, so
: the harsh feelings are
: gone. I know the
: beginning stages can be
: uncomfortable (I sure
: remember) for a lot of
: people, but you're
: basically just past
: that. If you think
: about it, the bad part
: goes away fairly
: quickly. Since your
: body is fairly used to
: it now, you won't really
: feel anything unpleasant
: if you go up to lights.
: You may not smoke as
: much at first, but
: nothing unpleasant. If
: you think of the feeling
: as a meal, you're
: basically just going to
: get full faster, and you
: won't feel like having a
: cigarette for a little
: while longer at first.
:
: Of course, all of that
: changes over time, just
: as you feel much
: different now than you
: did a few weeks ago when
: you smoke. Your body
: becomes even more
: tolerant, and you
: eventually smoke more
: and more as your habit
: becomes more regular.
:
: After a couple of
: months, none of this
: will really phase you at
: all because it just
: becomes routine and your
: intake has increased by
: then. You'll see at
: that time there will be
: a big difference between
: what you're going
: through now, and how
: you'll feel then.
: Basically, at that point
: you're a smoker and this
: will all probably make a
: lot more sense.
:
: Good luck Tom, and let
: me know how you do.

: Hi Jessica,
:
: Thanks for answering my
: question. As for me, I
: have been smoking the
: ultra lights for about a
: month, and smoke a
: little less than 10 a
: day, but perhaps a
: little more on the
: weekend. What was
: surprising to e, but not
: in a bad way, is that
: over the last week or so
: i find that I am really
: beginning to enjoy the
: feeling when I inhale.
: It is a pleasant
: sensation, and very
: different then the first
: week or so when they
: were a bit harsh. That
: is why I was wondering
: about the lights and
: whether it woud be like
: the beginning again. I
: have to admit I am a bit
: surprised at these last
: couple of weeks and how
: things have changed, but
: I would be lying to
: myself if I were to say
: I was not enjoying it.
: Up to this point, I have
: not experienced what you
: describe as relief when
: smoking. I just enjoy
: the feeling at this
: point. Thanks Jessica.

: Tom:
:
: I think it depends on
: how long you've been
: smoking your ultra
: lights. Have you been
: smoking a week, or a
: month? Also, how many
: have you been smoking
: per day? These have an
: importance on the answer
: to your question.
:
: If you've been smoking
: 10 or so ultra lights
: per day for a month,
: then no, lights will
: most likely not bring
: back the unpleasant
: memories of when you
: first started. Yes, you
: will feel a difference,
: but the beginning stages
: are basically over and
: the difference will not
: be unpleasant.
:
: Regarding the addiction
: process, you won't even
: know you're addicted
: until you already are.
: You may have heard
: smokers say this in the
: past. The funny thing
: about smoking is, when
: your body becomes
: addicted, you don't even
: know it until well after
: you're already there.
: You will be in the mood
: for a cigarette, but you
: think it's just because
: you feel like having
: one. Then, one day you
: will experience a
: situation where you
: cannot smoke for a long
: period of time. You
: will then start to
: notice you are thinking
: about it constantly, and
: cannot seem to get the
: idea of smoking out of
: your head. You may
: start to become edgy,
: and nervy.
:
: Finally, when you are
: able to have a
: cigarette, you will feel
: a sense of relief or
: satisfaction. That's
: when you know. However,
: most new smokers do not
: experience this until a
: while after they are
: already addicted.
: Addiction comes with
: smoking very quietly,
: and most new smokers
: don't know they're
: hooked until well after
: they first become
: addicted. This is why,
: at times, you may have
: heard of people that
: were social smokers
: becoming regular smokers
: without really wanting
: to.
:
: So, to answer your
: question, it's actually
: a very smooth process
: because you don't really
: know it's happening. I
: hope this helps Tom.
: Feel free to ask any
: additional questions if
: any come to mind.

: Hi jessica,
:
: Your response caught my
: eye, since i have been
: smoking ultra lights
: also. They did make it
: easier in the beginning,
: and I am beginning to
: enjoy it at this stage.
: My question is, will
: switching bring back
: some of the unpleasant
: things I first
: experienced with the
: ultra lights like
: dizziness? Also, if
: they do bring addiction,
: is this a difficult
: process or do most new
: smokers adjust to it
: easily...I guess that is
: the only issue that
: bothers me a bit
: sometimes. Thanks.

: SaraJane:
:
: No, you're not the only
: one who feels this way.
: I felt this way when I
: was younger, and I've
: met a few people over
: the years who have felt
: the same way when they
: started.
:
: If you're smoking a
: steady 10 per day, every
: day, chances are you are
: starting to get
: addicted. My best
: advice to you is to move
: up slightly to a
: stronger brand. There
: isn't much to Marlboro
: Ultra Lights, so they
: don't really help
: addiction all that much.
: Believe it or not, you
: would see a big
: difference just by
: moving up to Marlboro
: Lights.
:
: So, I would say continue
: smoking (as it would
: probably be hard to stop
: now anyway) and move up
: in strength to at least
: lights rather than ultra
: lights. I'm sure after
: another week or two
: smoking lights, you'll
: know if you're addicted.
:
: Best of luck SaraJane.

: I actually do like the
: idea of being addicted.
: Am I the only one who
: feels this way? Crazy?
: I can't explain it, I
: just like the idea not
: just enjoying a
: cigarette, but acutally
: needing one. Sound
: crazy?
:

: Its nice that you found
: the way to smoking. It
: may be that you are
: already addicted. Make
: the test written by
: Roger M..
: If you like the idea of
: beeing addicted it could
: be time to switch to
: stronger cigs without
: decreasing the number of
: cigs you smoke.
: Good luck.
