SaraJane:
As you can see by both Tom and Sylvia's posts, it's not unusual at all. Most people who decide to start smoking know they're eventually going to get addicted. I knew, and I was young, but I wanted to.
I know from first hand experience that, as Sylvia said, switching to a full flavor gets you addicted very fast. Years ago, I switched from lights to Marlboro Reds 100s and the addiction factor grew a lot, and very quickly. Now I smoke Newport 100s (I know, I switched to menthol) and would never smoke a light again. I don't know if it's such a great idea to switch from ultra lights to regulars right away, because it is a huge difference, and you're most likely not going to like that difference at first.
However, if you switch to lights until you're used to them, then move up again to regulars, that may be the best route for you. By that point, once you've smoked regulars for 1 month or so, you'll see what it's really like to be addicted.
I don't know though if you should switch to regulars at all really. Many people just enjoy staying at lights, and that's fine. I smoked lights for years and enjoyed them a whole lot. It depends on what you want to do. Of course I now enjoy regulars much more than I would lights, but when I smoked lights I was completely content (why I switched is a whole different story). So just do what you want.
However, I do have to say, you should get rid of your ultra lights. If you smoke, which you do, I'd say lights and above only for enjoyment reasons. Ultra Lights don't really have much to them. Once you switch to lights (or above, depending on what you do) you'll see what I mean.
Good luck SaraJane.

: Hi SaraJane, No the idea
: of wanting to get
: addicted to need
: cigarettes does not
: sound crazy at all to
: me. When I started (also
: after getting divorsed)
: I felt the same way. I
: agree with the
: suggestions of moving to
: a stronger brand and
: keep smoking the 10 a
: day as you do now with
: the ultra lights. Why
: not try full strenght
: menthols, they might be
: easier for you to
: handle, though marlboro
: reds might be too
: strong, but will make
: you addicted quite fast,
: I believe. Good luck.
