Hi sandi, I would recomend that you dont get a rooster, However I have 3 all of which are Nankins and the one we have out free rangeing is very gentle, he can be held and petted and runs free in the yard with the other hens and there is never a squabble he is an exellent protector and constantly calls out to the hens when he finds food , in fact he picks food up and puts it back down for his kens to eat.today while backing the truck out of the drive Carol said all the hens ran from the truck while Washington (roosters name ) stood his ground until they were all clear. I think he is awesome
