do you raise for eggs or do you plan to eat them I don't eat my chickens but have had two a few times roos get to mean and they have a accident with a knife or I had two cornish crosses but didn't know they were to have a short life I wasn't told when I got them so they lived for 5 and 6 months my favorite was a cornish rooster CHOOKSTER he was very friendly but his leg got sore they said it was his weight and it coudn't hold him and if he could get better it would happen again GOD I hated to do this on his last day he ran around the house and was out in the u=yard the nly time he felt grass in his life. He was my favotrite his girl friend BIG FAT HEN she came up lame to and she had the accident with the knife to. I recently had a austrolrop (SP?) he got to attacking me I shot him with a BB gun husband wasn't around to help me. Husband told me to shoot him in the eye well this slowed him down I got up and shot him in the back of the head and this was a done deal I grapped him and took him outside the pen to make sure his death was fast.
I hate to but I have grand kids around are the time and I couldn't have him attacked them or their friends IF they got in the pen this would be disobeying me if they did but still he was a liability.
You have any you had to cull?
