Thank you to the people who replied to my post re: My raccoon massacre. Great info! Sadly Beyonce passed away last night. her injuries must have been more serious than i thought. I have 1 remaining chicken 'Madonna' sitting on 2 fertilized eggs and wont get off them for all the tea in china!!
The eggs are now at 24 days so wont become chicks. As she's still setting I am planning to put a couple of day old chicks inder her in the dark when they arrive this week.
A friend told me to do this in the hope that she adopts the chicks as her own and becomes a 'mother' to them. I ordered another 14 and plan to give 3 to Madonna and raise the rest myself. After speaking to another hen expert today she told me that if the hen can smell humans on the new chicks she wont want them. Can anyone give me some advise on how to do this the best way? Maybe you have tried this yourself ?
After what Madonna witnessed this week I really want her to have a family of her own.
