I have a very old incubator I open 3-4 times a day for about 1 min at a time to turn by hand day1-day 18. Temp often drops to 85ish at these times, also my humidity according to the little lizard gage is around 60% till about day 16 or17 then i do my best to bump it up. 'THEY' say too much humity is bad too, i have a hard time keeping it high, they need oxygen too so you need a little hole or air leak somewhere down low if you're not going to be opening it for days at a time. I've had a perfect hatch rate with chickens, so far, not as good with quail but still okay... but I did lose 1 chicken after it got out (it was early and got into the extra water)
I leave the hatched chicks in till they seem to be walking rather than just floping, normaly about 4 hours or less on some most say til dry but mine didn't really get fluffy til the next day...
I also pre warm the box they're moving to along with their water to about 90-95
