to get he eyes open use some warm water and do light compresses not to hard once you see inside take a light like a flash light a small one and if you can see a pupil shine the light in the one eye if it gets smaller the eyes are active the can see light. Do this to the other eye to.
If you can open the eys and see that there is damage to the pupil maybe the chicken is blind I can't say with out pictures.
On other animals they make like they are to touch the eye and the animal will blink or move it's head I don't know if this is so with chickens but dogs horse cats goats and most animals I have been around do this.
