What causes a brown-egg-laying hen to start laying thin-shelled white eggs?

We have 2 young buff orpington hens. We are learning about chickens so everything is new to us! They both gave us 2 beautiful dark brown eggs every day, but now that it's turning cold, one of them has started laying white eggs instead. VERY thin-shelled and rough surfaced. What on earth would cause this????
