I have a flock of 15 mixed chickens. We have 6 hens that we got last year, 3 barred rocks, 2 RI reds, and a golden commet. They had been laying 5 eggs per day pretty consistently most of the Summer.
In May we got 12 new birds, 6 EE's and 6 silver wyandotes. They were all supposed to be hens, but surprise, surprise we have two roosters now
, one EE and one Wyandotte.
It seems to me that the hens we got this May should be laying by now, but we have yet to get an egg from any of them?
And to make matters worse our egg production is down to 2 eggs a day, sometimes 1. I had to buy eggs from a local farmer this weekend, first time I bought eggs since last summer
. I know egg production will slow down as the the days geet shorter, but this seems excessive.
Can any of you more experienced folks give me an idea of what's going on here????
Thanks.
Alan
