I went to my first poultry show this morning. I saw many very good birds. I also talked to some of the owners. The judgeing took longer than I expected. I was also surprized that there were not many std. old english game birds. The USC Gamecocks play across the street. Everyone has their favorites but this morning I choose a buff plymonth rock hen. She was a beautiful bird. Some birds did show signs of molting. The barred rocks that I Have at home could have been in the running for best of the breed. The ones in the show started droping feathers Tues. and the owner said they lost a lot of feathers this week. Bantams, ducks, turkeys, peafowl, geese, doves quail, pheasants, pigeons, and guineas. There are so many different breeds in species. I had a wonderful time and learned so much. There was a new product used as liter on the botton of the cages made from paper it looked like pellets. It was doing a great job of stoping oders and no wet spots. Now I need to rest my ears over one hundred roosters makes quite a noise. I am planning on some new birds for spring. Maybe some to go to the fair.
