Hi, I have 8 hens and 1 rooster. I have raised them from day 2. They are about 28 weeks old. They free range by day, and have a great secure coop at night. All was well like any other day until this afternoon when one of my hens started acting sick. Panting, unable to stand for very long, diareah. She went from sick to dead in 3 hours. I had seperated her, tried to give her sugar water, oats with honey and yogurt. She took very little water, and would not eat. I brought her inside...but sadly she died. Any ideas??? could she have eaten a bad mushroom? any ideas. Heartbroken, and don't want to make a mistake if it is my fault. They have been eating Layena crumbles, and scratch grains along with free range.
