Mary, no question is dumb...Yes, there is such a thing as a chicken who never lays an egg. I have a 2 year hen (Gertrude) who has never laid an egg. I think this was due to when she was young, not mature, and she got a cold which I didn't catch in time ( was away on vacation). I was able to get her over it, but I think it did something to her egg production system (shut it down)...Scooter
