I've heard that baby chicks shouldn't have greens (or other treats?) until they're 4 weeks old because they have a tough time digesting their food, even with grit. I don't see what harm it can do, though, if you give it a try and keep an eye on them. In my experience, even young chicks don't know what to do with any 'treats' I gave them. It's like when they turn 4 weeks old, they have that brave attitude and will try anything. Just be careful what you give them. Adults can have virtually anything (veggies, breads, fruits)-wise that humans can. Here's a treat chart for ADULTS:

As far as visiting hours goes, you can never give a chick too much love.
Feel free to visit them as often as possible. The more they see of you, the more attached they will become. I usually make a huge brooder so I can just sit in their with the chickies. And I take away their feeder and feed them crumbles from my hand. But, yeah, it does depend on the breed.
