Jeepers, there are tons of reasons why a chicken, or flock of chickens will lose feathers. Here`s some thoughts. If the feathers are broken off, new feathers will not grow back until the bird moults. If the feathers are pulled out, new ones will begin to grow almost immediately. Chances are your chickens that have been bare for a while have had feathers broken off somehow. The fact that the rooster is now losing feathers gives hope that a moult is beginning. You should have new feathers comming in on all the birds soon. Now, it`s a fact that some birds moult right on into the coldest months, so don`t be alarmed. Things should look pretty normal before spring. You might consider adding 3-4 morsels of dry catfood for each bird a couple times a week. That stuff is high in protien and will help replenish the feathers. Good luck........P
