snacks?

I am really sorry because I haven't been on in a while. When school started I really never had time to visit the site. I just wanted to know what kind of snacks I can give to day old baby chicks. Is it safe to give them vegetables? I just bought chick grit. Does the grit help? I will feed them crumble with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
